Asila Interview  08/03/21

MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences

We’re a hard rock band with soul influences from South Africa. So we like to call it Rock’n’Soul!  We’re influenced by a wide variety of music from all genres, but rock and metal is definitely at the forefront. Adrian loves his old-school metal like Iron Maiden, Hana comes from a more 2000s influence with Evanescence  and Richard loves his old school death metal like Amorphis. But at the same time Hana has a big soul/ blues influence from artists like Artha Franklin.

MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from

We’re inspired a lot by life experiences and the people we meet. Working with awesome, talented people is always a lot of fun and pushes you to do cool things. But lyrically Hana writes from her life experiences mainly.

MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?

It’s hard to choose a favourite, but right now it’s definitely our upcoming single Hot Blooded Woman! It’s coming out on February 26! It’s a hard rocking track about women empowerment!

MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2020

That damn Corona Virus kinda put any gigging plans on hold, but we do occasionally do live streams on Twitch to keep some interaction going.

MM: What can we expect from (Band Name) live

A lot of energy! I think our live sound is more raw than the records, and usually a lot faster as well! But it feels great!

MM: What do you like best and worst abt touring

Best thing is going to awesome places and meeting great people. The travelling can get tedious though.

MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies

In a dream world it would be Within Temptation, Evanescence and Billy Talent.

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why

Iron Maiden when they played Johannesburg was really amazing. They’ve been around forever, but they had immense energy and played flawlessly!

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with

Every song we release is an accomplishment to us. We put a lot of effort into each song, we spend a lot of time crafting them, making them unique. So upon completion of each song, there is a lot of pride!

MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time

Within Temptation – Resist, Amorphis – Queen of Time

MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?

The first time for me was in a school band haha. I was quite shy, so I probably felt quite awkward.

MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.

Megadeth, Amorphis!

MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person

Damn, there are a couple I think. Each in different ways. I think the first couple of guys who started doing heavy music had a massive role to play. So maybe Ozzy. But rock and metal have evolved a lot as well, so there have been important guys pushing the genre. As a guitarist someone who recently pushed the boundary is Tosin Abasi (Animals as Leaders).

MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?

Releasing Hot Blooded Woman!

MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?

One band we certainly will never cover is Queen. I don’t I’ve ever heard a good Queen cover. They are just untouchable.

MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band

Our songs are catchy, have a powerful message and unique. If you like strong female vocals and good songs give us a try! Each song is quite unique, so hopefully you’ll be entertained.

MM: Four words to describe (band Name)

Pure, Unique, Powerful, Real
