Blood of Indigo Interview  21/09/21

MM:Can you tell us about your Band and who’s your biggest influences

Sure! We are Blood of Indigo and our genre is Dark Fantasy Metal. We are a concept band, so all of our albums are connected to the same fictional universe. Some songs are based on character origins and some are based on events that occur in the fictional universe. We make music that inspires creativity, escapism, empowerment, and healing. We hope that after listening to our music, listeners will want to play video games like Bloodborne, Dark Souls, and Legend of Zelda because our music would be the perfect soundtrack to playing those games. We are also very inspired by Metal bands like Dimmu Borgir, Nightwish, Epica, Dream Theater, Periphery, Children of Bodom, and the list goes on!

MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from

We draw a lot of inspiration from video games like Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Diablo 2, Bioshock, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Skyrim, and Legend of Zelda. We also draw inspiration from bands like Dimmu Borgir, Nightwish, Epica, Dream Theater, Periphery, Children of Bodom, Carach Angren, Shadow of Intent, etc. The ideas are rooted in storytelling from Dark Fantasy and RPG video games. We combine music and storytelling to create a Dark Fantasy Metal experience.

MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song?

I would say, Vredesbyrd by Dimmu Borgir. A while ago, Nathan and I were sitting down and admiring how perfectly structured this song is, the amazing production, and how ahead of it’s time this song was. The arrangements and song structure are just flawless. Everything happens at the right time! Not to mention it’s an absolutely epic and evil sounding masterpiece! I believe all of the vocals are written and performed in Norwegian, which makes it even more amazing! I highly recommend listening to this track!

MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2021

We don’t have any plans for touring this year, as we have focussed entirely on finishing our debut album, “Dawn of The Shaded World.” We are planning on releasing the album in 2022.

MM: What can we expect from you guys live

When we are ready to play live, you can expect amazing musicianship, lots of passion in our stage presence, and our best efforts to create a visually stunning presentation. We are still working on our debut album at this time, but when we are ready to practice our live set, we will do our best to put on the most memorable show for our fans!

MM: What do you like best and worst about touring

We have never been on tour, but I could imagine it being lots of fun traveling around the world. I can also see how it can get exhausting being away from home for long periods of time. We are optimistic about being on the road and the amazing opportunities that come with it!

MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies

I feel like we would have an absolute blast touring with our friends Astaroth Incarnate, Lindsay Schoolcraft, and Solarus! We love these guys so much and always have a great time seeing them perform live! They always inspire us and I can’t wait to share the stage with them sometime soon!

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why

There are so many incredible shows, but the most memorable show I’ve been to was Slipknot in 2016 in Toronto. It was very influential to me because this was one of the events that triggered my desire to become a Metal vocalist. I could see myself standing in Corey Taylor’s shoes, screaming my heart out, and amping up the crowd. I believe there comes a moment in every musician’s life where they see themselves as the performer on stage and identify with a band member. It’s like you can feel yourself in their shoes and playing their instrument. This was one of those moments for me!

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with

So far, my proudest moment in music has been creating our debut album, “Dawn of The Shaded World.” This has been the most creatively fulfilling experience of my entire life and I’m so proud of what we have created. We’re already starting to write sections for album 2, even while mixing and mastering our first album! We still haven’t played any shows yet because we decided to focus on creating an album first, build our fanbase online, and play shows when we are ready to perform in front of an audience. Playing live is a completely different beast from recording an album and we are so excited to put on an epic and memorable show when the time is right.

MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time

Oh that’s a tough one! I would have to go with Abrahadabra by Dimmu Borgir and Wages of Sin by Arch Enemy. Abrahadabra is always an album that I come back to whenever I’m looking for creative inspiration for our storytelling and I need a soundtrack to paint my imagination. I love Wages of Sin because Angela Gossow is one of my favourite vocalists of all time, not to mention every song on that album is a banger!

MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?

I personally have never played a show yet! Mariusz and Nathan have played live many times with their other bands respectively, and they always tell me about how surreal it is to perform for an audience. We are incredibly excited to play our first Blood of Indigo show, once we release our debut album and build our fanbase. We’ve been mainly focussing on building our fanbase online and so far, we’ve been receiving some amazing feedback about our music. Soon enough, we’ll be playing these songs live once we’re ready to make it happen!

MM: Growing up which Bands’ posters did you have on your bedroom wall.

I didn’t really have any posters in my bedroom as a young fan, BUT I had plenty of band T-shirts! I had a really cool Pantera shirt and probably 4 different Slipknot shirts!

MM: Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person

There are so many influential people in the world of Rock and Metal. Ozzy Osbourne has to be the most influential person in the Metal world as a whole, but to me personally, Corey Taylor always struck me as an influential frontman and watching him perform live in Slipknot awas one of the reasons why I felt so drawn to becoming a vocalist! I feel like he’s also inspired many other vocalists to pick up a mic and start working on their craft. His energy on-stage is so raw and powerful!

MM: What's the most important thing to the band right now?

Right now we are finishing the mixing and mastering for our debut album, “Dawn of The Shaded World” which we are planning to release in 2022. Over the next 12 months, we’ll be aiming to build our fanbase and email list with our “3 Days of Dark Fantasy Metal” campaign where we are giving away three songs from our album to let people hear what our music sounds like! Next, we’ll be releasing three singles with cinematic lyric videos for the songs “Angelus, the ‘Faceless’ Vampire, “Sphynx, Collector of Eyes”, and “Anne Marie Indigo” to tell the stories of the songs!

MM: If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?

If we do a cover song, it would probably have to be something totally different from our style. Maybe something super cheerful and happy, so we can completely change the tone of the song by making it dark and epic. I believe that if you’re going to do a cover of a song, it should offer a different perspective from the original version. I appreciate covers that completely reimagine the original tune. Maybe we can make the Spongebob Squarepants theme song sound evil? It would be a challenge, but anything is possible! Muahahaha!

MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band

If video games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, or Legend of Zelda capture your heart, I truly believe that our music will do the same for you. Blood of Indigo is here to help you feel like yourself again. You should buy and listen to Blood of Indigo if you LOVE Metal music with a Dark Fantasy twist. If you love to listen to bands like Dimmu Borgir, Nightwish, and Fleshgod Apocalypse and crave that feeling of escapism, we are here to provide that for you. We create music to fuel your imagination and to help you escape to another world. You can be a knight, a pyromancer, an evil ruler, anything you want! As a band, we have dedicated our lives to creating music and telling stories. Creating this music helped us through some dark times. While making this album, we’ve lost friends and family members who we loved dearly and went through a pandemic. Our passion and dedication to bringing you our best work and giving this project 150% shows in our music. We hope this music will help you break free from the chains of the mundane and renew your love for creativity. We hope this music will help you find your spark!

MM: Four words to describe your Band

Dark, Majestic, Empowering, Healing.

MM: Final Words for your fans and our readers

Thank you for being part of our journey. Whether you’ve been with us since we started in 2017 or you’re just discovering us now, as we’re finishing up our debut album, THANK YOU! If you would like to hear what our music sounds like, I’ve provided a link to our “3 Days of Dark Fantasy Metal” Campaign where we are allowing you to preview three songs which will be on our upcoming album, “Dawn of The Shaded World.”
