Josey Stines from Chasing Apparitions 23/07/20
MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences
CA: The metal-core outfit based out of Indiana, Chasing Apparitions, features Josey Stines & Jacob Ortengren on instrumentals with Justin Stubbs on vocals, Chasing Apparitions recorded "Am I Worth Saving?" with Jonathan Dolese at Konkrete Studios.
Throughout "Am I Worth Saving?" the band brings a breath of fresh air to the genre with hard-hitting riffs & emotional lyrics that make you question your very existence.
MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from
CA: We draw musical inspiration from bands like Born of Osiris, Fit for a King, Architects, Bad Omens, Wage War, Thousand Below, Dayseeker, etc. As far as lyrical inspiration it all comes down to current world problems, depression, alcoholism, struggling to cope with your mortality, wondering if your life has any meaning at all.
MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?
CA: My personal favorite is “L’appel Du Vide”. It means the Call of the Void. It’s an interesting concept that I struggle with everyday. I encourage you to look it up. Lyrically the song matches every thought that has came in my head.
MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2020
CA: Currently with the COVID-19 pandemic going on, I don’t see that as a possibility. For now we’re just going to focus on writing more music & releasing the current music.
MM: What can we expect from Chasing Apparitions live
CA: High Energy. From the first song to the last song we will give the show everything we’ve got. Whether it’s 10 people or 100. We want people to leave sweating & tired.
MM: What do you like best and worst abt touring
CA: What I like best about touring is the traveling aspect of it. Just going to different cities. Site-seeing. Talking to locals. Hitting up local spots & grabbing the specials. What I hate about touring is easily the smell, 5 dude in a van with stinky & sweaty clothes without the option to shower. It’s gross for sure. You find out real quick if touring is for you or not.
MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies
CA: The three bands I would love to tour with would be Thousand Below, Soulseeker, & Relics. Soulseeker & Relics are also from the Indy scene & they’re the homies.
MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why
CA: The most memorable concert that I didn’t play would have to be a These Hearts concert at the Terre Haute Music Venue. We had played with These Hearts last time they came to town & the vocalist came up to me & asked me to run lights for their show.
MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with
CA: Our biggest accomplishment so far would have to be coming back from a 3yr hiatus with a new EP. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if CA would ever be a band again, but I think “Am I Worth Saving?” is lightyears ahead of “The Hedonist”.
MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time
CA: My 2 favorite albums of all time have to be “Reckless & Relentless” by Asking Alexandria & “There Is a Hell Believe Me I've Seen It. There Is a Heaven Let's Keep It a Secret.” by Bring Me the Horizon.
MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?
CA: I remember my first show ever, I was extremely nervous. I was sweating. I even forgot the first couple lines of the first song. Eventually I kind of zoned out & stopped paying attention to the crowd so much & just went nuts.
MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.
CA: Growing up my bedroom wall looked like a Hot Topic store. I had Asking Alexandria, I See Stars, Attack Attack!, All Time Low, A Day to Remember, The Story So Far, We Came As Romans, The Maine, Palisades, etc. Just honestly way too many bands to mention.
MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person
CA: Typically when I think of bands that influenced Metal & Rock, I always think of Metallica first. So I’d have to say Metallica on this one.
MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?
CA: The most important thing to Chasing Apparitions right now would have to be the release of our new EP “Am I Worth Saving?”, we’ve spent the past year making it perfect & we want it to get the recognition it deserves.
MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?
CA: If Chasing Apparitions could do a cover of any song I’d want it to be something people wouldn’t expect. Something out of the metal/djenty zone. I think a Nothing,Nowhere. or Convolk or Deberg cover could be super cool if done right.
MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band
CA: If you’re currently angry with the state of the world or you’re questioning your own mortality or your own purpose. Give “Am I Worth Saving?” a listen & you’ll realize you’re not alone. It’s okay to be mad or sad about what’s going on around. As far as buying things from us, that’s your call. Our merch is literally the lowest price with us breaking even. Any support is much appreciated.
MM: Four words to describe Chasing Apparitions
CA: High energy. Heavy Breakdowns.
