Cloudfalls Interview 26/04/20
MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences
CF:Hi, Thanks for having me.
My band is Cloudfalls, we are an alternative rock band / hard rock band, depending, some say post-rock. We are playing an energetic rock and having lots of fun.
Our biggest influences are plenty, from Nickelback, Halestorm, Sum 41, 3 doors down to Children of bodom, Iced earth, Gamma ray.
MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from
CF:I used to say that my inspiration is very random, I know people would prefer I give a more precise answer, that I’m inspired by this or this, but the truth is, it’s more about feeling and the right moment combined. Simple, sometimes I feel the need to take my guitar and something will come out of it. I sit at my desk and I play, I completely improvised. I set up a track of drum in general and I really let chance decide what I will create today. Small by small I built new songs, chorus, verse. I love doing this, it’s more about having fun and playing guitars than just over thinking notes, chords and melodies.
MM: What would you say is your Band favorite song?
CF: My band's favorite song is probably “The poison in my veins” It’s a song about love in one way. A love so big that it’s becoming a poison invading your veins.
MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2020
CF:Well because of the virus :( unfortunately, we have more canceling than new dates.
So far 2 dates canceled.
We have plans for September in France.
MM: What can we expect from Cloudfalls live
CF:We are definitely a live band, it’s where our full potential is released. We have a lots of fun. We got 2 boxes, 1 is written “superhero”, the other “supervillains” and we go up and down. I try to involve the crowd as much as possible, make them sing. We play 2 covers, it’s easier for them to really get in the show.
MM: What do you like best and worst abt touring
CF:The best in touring is the show every night :) meeting a lot of people. Trying to get new fans. The girls… The worst part is we don’t have a roady.. we need to carry the heavy stuff all the time ah ah. But it’s alright, it’s part of the job.
MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies
CF: Halestorm, Touring with Lzzy Hale and listen to her voice every night would be a dream
Nickelback, cause there will be thousands of people in front of us :)
Bon jovi, so we can learn from god himself.
MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why
CF:It would be Scorpions at la Halle tony Garnier in Lyon, France, 3 years ago.
Scorpions was one of the first rock band I ever listened to and it was the first time I see them live. Also there was Europe with them, And I love Europe as well.
And damn, they are old but they still got it ! they are perfect. Meine’s voice is still so crystal clear and powerful, unbelievable. The show was “grandiose” !
MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far
CF:My career as a musician is now about 17 years, And I’m happy about every moment in it. Learning guitar was an amazing time to discover what I can do. Creating albums, playing with other bands and musicians is already a big accomplishment.
MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time
CF:Are you dead yet from Children of Bodom
The strange case of… Halestorm
But seriously too hard to choose, so many good albums out there.
MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?
CF:Oh yes I remember that, I sucked, I played in a very small venue and there were about 100 people. I was more focused on singing correctly so I really did shit on my guitar ah ah. But it was a hell of a fun. People were slamming and screaming with us. They were literally 30 cm in front of me. It was a death metal show (my first band is death metal) so really straight forward.
Having people in front of me has always been easy for me, I’m far from being shy. It was exciting. And I’m still excited the same at every show ! I miss the stage everyday.
MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.
CF:I remember I had a dimmu borgir poster and I wasn’t really a fan or listening to this band, but the picture was cool and I got it from a metal magazine … so against the wall.
I’m graphic designer and I was drawing all the time, so my walls were full with comics and cartoons, not really bands.
MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person
CF:Wow that’s the hardest question ever bro ! Ok maybe Ozzy Osbourne ?? it’s more a question I ask you than an answer !
MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?
CF:The most important is playing together and having fun doing it. We rehearsal only once a week and it’s always such a pleasure.
MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?
CF:I did already a lot of cover, cause I love to do it.
We play How you remind me, Nickelback live, cause everybody knows this song and loves to sing it with us. We also play Party rock, Lmfao a rock version I created (I added some Ozzy Osbourne, crazy train’s melodies inside, yes it works !) , just because it’s fun. People are like.. ok I know this song … what is it ? they are happy to find out when the chorus comes.
We also did The offsprings, Kids aren’t alright. I did Rammstein, Michael jackson, Lady gaga Poker face (over a million views on youtube) ..
MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band
CF:Because if you don’t buy I can’t feed my children … ah ah
First listen to it, feel the fun we have playing our music, move your head up and down. Try to listen all the hidden layers. Try to catch all our influences. Then if you like it, buy it to support us, so we can keep doing good songs for you.
