                                                                                                                   LunariaN interview 21/04/23

MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences

LunariaN are an experimental-rock/art-rock band based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The members are Rivelino Ismaya as vocalist / guitarist / synth / other instruments, Anink Edyson on guitars, Immanuel Willy on bass, and Ekky Setiawan as the drummer.

Our biggest influences would be bands like Radiohead, System of a Down, Kasabian, Rammstein, some other bands, and also a wide range of classical music and traditional music, mainly European.

MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from

Most of them come from observation, but most of the songs are the non-fiction transcriptions of it.

MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song?

Hard not to say Paranoid Android.. It’s our go-to song in the studio when we’re bored 😊

MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2023

1 thing for sure is we’re looking forward to our album release in June, and we’re planning a few things that should go along with it, including some tours.

MM: What can we expect from LunariaN live

People have said that our performance is a fiery and no-bullshit performance, as well as funny. We kinda like that description.

MM: What do you like best and worst abt touring

Best thing is seeing the audience and have them enjoying our stuff! The preparation is the exhausting part, but it’s all worth it, almost always.

MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies.

Going local we’d love Singdawa, a band that have been our partner in moving forward. Sigmun, another brilliant band from Bandung, Indonesia, and allowing ourselves to dream, it would be System of a Down, haha.

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why.

Anink and Ekky went to Bon Jovi concert a couple years back, and they enjoyed it so much because it’s their favourite band. For me (Rivelino), I’d say Sigur Ros back in Singapore in 2012, it’s so dreamy and I felt like drwoned into their beautiful music and delivery.

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with

We dare say that we’re proud to have our own presence on the independent scene outside Indonesia. We get emails that suggests people know us already. Given that we still don’t have a manager, it’s quite an accomplishment for us, and it shows that people like our music.

MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time

Kid A by Radiohead and Pinkerton by Weezer!

MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?

Yes we can, it was in one of the bars in South Jakarta. We were nervous but funnily enough when we’re on stage we didn’t care about it and just playing, singing, jumping. We think it goes to say that we love performing that much.

MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.

Nirvana, Metallica, Backstreet Boys, Iron Maiden, Korn, and some others that were replaced quite quickly, haha.

MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person

Wow that’s a lot of names.. Hard to pinpoint one. Without undermining the others, we’d say Pixies, Metallica, Soundgarden, Queens of the Stone Age.

MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?

Originality, no contest. Now some might say that –for lack of better words-- “being present” or something along with that is the most important thing in this digital age. But that has always been an inherent thing that you must do if you’re working on it. In the era where everyone can just download any information and imitate it, it’s a great thing if you strive to create based on what you actually are.

MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?

We’ve done it and sometimes still doing it. It’s 15 Step by Radiohead (again, we know). Love the quirkiness.

MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band

Most people, well people who care anyway, said that our music sounds original, undaunted by the usual form. We think it’s a good reason why you have to try to listen to us, whether you like it or not, it will depend on your taste/

MM: Four words to describe LunariaN

Eclectic, riffs, surprising, fiery.

Final Words for your fans and our readers

Let’s always try to find good music for ourselves, because most of best musicians are not on your favourite radio. And of course, listen to LunariaN’s music on Youtube or whatever streaming service you use.

Thank you The Metal Gods Meltdown!
