                                                                                 Slowpoke Interview  12/09/21

MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences
Slowpoke is a three-piece stoner/doom/psychedelic band formed in St. John’s NL, in 2018.
We have a long list of influences which include Kyuss, Clutch, The Melvins, Black Sabbath,
Down, Eyehategod, Orange Goblin and many more.

MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from
Life and the world

MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song?
We don’t necessarily have a singular song that the band has decided is their favourite song,
however Kiss From a Rose by Seal is a solid choice.

MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2021
Everything has been booked for 2021. However, in 2022 we would like to get out of the
province, in particular Halifax.

MM: What can we expect from you guys live
Genuine energy and a loud rock n’ roll show.

MM: What do you like best and worst about touring
Travelling and getting to experience different locations is probably the best aspect. The
worst would be being away from family and friends.

MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies
Pantera, Clutch, the Jimi Hendrix Experience

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why
Ben: Probably Iggy Pop in Dundas Square in Toronto. He had such great crowd control and
curated the entire evening.
Cam: Being and living in Newfoundland my whole life, we don't have many major touring
acts stopping by. Seeing The Tragically Hip was a highlight, especially looking back on it
after Gord Downie passed away. They are Canadian icons.
Adam: Metallica was the best show but Tool was the most meaningful.

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with
Achieving the grants was a big accomplishment for us and really helped us. Having local
legends sHEAVY open for us at our album release show in St. John’s was a major
accomplishment as well.

MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time
We’ll give you two we really like each:
Ben: I’ll give two albums that I enjoy; Strung Out - Exile in Oblivion and Paul Simon -
Graceland
Cam: It’s too hard to choose two favourites per say; I enjoy Exile on Main Street - Rolling
Stones, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Adam: Pantera 101 Proof, and Terror - Keepers of the faith

MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people
watching you?
Ben: I played in front of about 500 people at our singers school. I felt totally at home.
Cam: I played a lot of smaller things when I was a kid, but my first legit live gig was with
Slowpoke in 2019. It was the best feeling ever.
Adam: It was exciting. I did everything faster. It was at Barkley’s in Mt Pearl.

MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.
Ben: Monty Python, System of A Down, Guns n’ Roses, Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Cam: Pantera, KISS, Green Day, Metallica
Adam: Marylin Manson, Tool, Pantera, Meshuggah

MM: Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person
Ben: James Brown
Cam: Jimi Hendrix
Adam: Tony Iommi

MM : What's the most important thing to the band right now?
Writing and gigging right now.

MM: If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?
The torture intro of Method Man by Wu Tang Clan

MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band
We blend a variety of ideas by stealing from everyone all the time.

MM: Four words to describe your Band
Loud, Aggressive, Dynamic, fun
