                                                                                            Survivalist Interview  15/03/23

MM: Can you tell us about your Band and who is your biggest influences

We like to think we've taken the best aspects of Metalcore, Deathcore and Groove metal and put them into one sound and one vision. We are incredibly driven and have high reaching aspirations, which will take a lot of work but we have the energy.

Pantera, While She Sleeps, Architects, Messugah and Periphery would be up there amongst the favorites in the band.

The response has been amazing so far, lots of positive support from all around the world. When you see people in Germany / America.

MM: What would you say is your Band's favourite song ?

As a whole? Probably something by Pantera, Dimebag was a inspiration to all of us in the band. We have been toying with the idea of a cover of Domination.

MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2023

We have a few tours and festival slots planned for the year. We can't talk about these very much as the only one announced is our English tour in June with our good friends Recall the Remains. So keep an eye on our socials.

MM: What can we expect from Survivalist live

We try to bring a very complete live experience. We aim to recreate our studio sound live. Loud, heavy, professional and full of energy.

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why

For me (Gav) it's Periphery in London 2019. The sound, the atmosphere, the support and the venue was just perfect and I would see them again in a heartbeat.

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with Survivalist

We've covered a lot of ground in Avery short space of time. Working with Earache and some of the contacts we've made has been so helpful. We didn't have any contacts in the industry when we started and we've grafted and placed our name into the mouths of some invaluable contacts. Our album was such a huge undertaking too due to lockdown, mental health and financial struggles within the band and we managed to climb that mountain and crumble it.

MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time

Pantera - Great Southern Trendkill
Periphery - Hail Stan

MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?

I was 17 and played in a Metal band with some friends. We played a local youth club and it very quickly became what I wanted to do.

MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person

So many people, from classical composers like Mozart and Bach to Ozzy and Eddie Van Halen. For me, it will always be Dimebag. The riffs, the attitude, the groove and the legacy he left behind is the mark we want to leave behind.

MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?

Tom's kemper. Just kidding. Progress, we aren't worried about how long it takes to achieve our goals. We want to enjoy the journey and get to our destination together.

MM: If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?

As above. Domination by Pantera because it's a certified banger.

MM: If there was a heavy metal song about yourself what would it be called

Of Mindfulness and Sloth. Listen on Spotify.

MM: Tell us why we should check out and listen to your Band

Slammin' riffs, crushing breakdowns, plenty of craic and constant content for you to get stuck into.

MM: Four words to describe Survivalist

Determined, Resilient, Assiduous and Benevolent.

Five questions:

1.Vinyl or digital? Vinyl to support bands and Digital for convenience.

2.Beer or gravy? Greer.

3.festival or small intimate gig? Small intimate festival.

4.Saint or sinner? We can all do both.

5.Rish Sunak or Kermit the frog? I would sooner trust a frog to be in charge of a countries affairs.
