The Last Martyr Interview  10/04/21

MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences

Hey we're an Australian heavy rock band called the Last Martyr! This is a hard question as we're influenced by so many things but the main influences you can hear in our upcoming EP are our nu metal and trap influences which peak through in between our rock sensibilities.

MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from

For myself as a lyricist, all my lyrics come from experiences I'm going through. With the latest EP, I wrote most of the lyrics during pre-pro. Only a handful were from notebooks I'd been holding onto etc. So the themes were very much reflecting what I was thinking about and going through during the COVID-19 pandemic. Feeling like I was running out of time to make a music career happen, worrying about getting older, reflecting on experiences I hadn't thought of in years also that suddenly bubbled to the surface once I was less distracted by the outside world.

MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?

Collectively our fav track off the EP is a song called, 'Freaking Out,' which is our heaviest, but most melodic track! We'll be dropping it as a single later in the year!

MM: Plans tour and festival wise for  2021

We have a few shows in the works around Australia...but nothing that can be revealed just yet!

MM: What can we expect from you guys live

We've just spend the past 2 months working on our live show now gigs have come back in our home city and boarder restrictions between states have eased. It's the tightest and most energetic show I've ever been a part of in a band. We're ready to unleash after over a year of not performing!

MM: What do you like best and worst about touring

The best part is playing the shows, feeling the energy of the crowd and meeting new people. The worst is having no sleep!

MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies

Speaking for myself, Spiritbox, Northlane and Architects just because I'm selfish and want to watch them perform every night.

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why

There are a lot! Probably one of the first Soundwave festicals. It was hot, I didn't eat all day because I'd spent my last dollar on a ticked, I was fueled by the music and it was such a vibe. I don't even recall who played or if I had friends with me, I just remember the energy of the showgrounds and the double kicks of the bands reverberating into my very being.

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with The Last Martyr?

I think how we've overcome the obsticles of COVID and come out the other side more united, focused and stronger as a team. The best is yet to come for us though!

MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time

That's near impossible but I really liked Flip Phone Fantasy by Ocean Grove when it came out last year. A more classic album would be What A Life! By Divinyls.

MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?

Pretty sure officially it was with my all-girl punk band called The Vinyls Dolls when I was 15.  We had fun but it was at a Christian music festival and they didn't take too kindly to our scantly-clad selves dressed in tu-tus, corsets and fake eyelashes.

MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.

I was as weird emo-glam hybrid but most of the posters were of bands like Guns n' Roses, Motley Crue, Vixen and Skid Row.

MM: Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person

I mean, you really can't go past Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.

MM : What's the most important thing to the band right now?

That we are working well as a team to self-release our upcoming singles and EP. So far it's going better than we could have imagined though!

MM: If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?

I've always wanted to do Barracude by Heart purely to flex (and because it's a great song). But I can't really imagine TLM doing it!

MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band

It's not up to me to tell you anything. If you resonate with our message and music, we'd love to welcome you to the TLM family. But if not, that's alright too!

MM: Four words to describe your Band

 Dark, fierce, heavy, catchy, weird!

MM: Final Words for your fans and our readers
