Black Jack Love Interview 14/10/20
MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences
We're Blackjack Love, a heavy blues / rock n roll band hailing from Woking. The band consists of ;
Azza - Vocals/Guitars
Brother Nick - Guitars/Vocals
Brother Sam - Bass/Vocals
Matt Wonder - Drums/Percussion/Vocals
Our biggest influences are probably The Clash / Foo Fighters / Queens of The Stone Age / Oasis / Led Zeppelin / Marvin Gaye / The Who
MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from
Most of the songs are telling a story. So it could be random ideas or scenes in my (Azza) head. Sometimes it could be from personal experiences or shit that's going on in the world. Our families or close friends sometimes inspire us.
MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?
Before I Leave without a doubt.
MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2020
We had loads of shows lined up all round the South of England, but that's all come to a stop at the minute.
MM: What can we expect from (Band Name) live
We're rock n roll man. Turn it up to 11 & do our thing. We just get everyone involved & have a good fucking time, man.
MM: What do you like best and worst abt touring
The best bits are playing every night & living life on the road doing what you love. The worst bits are when there's no showers, & hangovers.
MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies
The Who, The Rolling Stones & Motley Crue
MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why
(Azza) I went to watch The Black Keys at Ally Pally years ago when El Camino came out. They opened with Howlin' For You & I turned to my mate & said " why have they opened with their best track?". They then absolutely smashed the whole album & it was fucking amazing. Then afterwards I got arrested, so I mean, that was pretty memorable as well.
MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with
I think recording our album 'Bullets & Blues' is. Jst the time, effort, emotional drain. I think it came out pretty well in the end.
MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time
What's Going On? by Marvin Gaye & What's The Story Morning Glory?
MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people
watching you?
(Azza) Yea personally the first gig I ever played live, the front man stood on the extension lead & killed all the music. As a band, we played a gig in Reading & all the other acts were a lot more chilled us than us. I remember saying to the boys "fuck, we're gonna be so fucking loud man, I ain't sure about this". We went on, & everyone was absolutely loving it. Which was nice.
MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.
Oasis & The Rolling Stones
MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person
Jimi Hendrix or Joe Strummer probably. They were ahead of the curve & paved the way for it all.
MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?
Getting back out gigging. Playing live. it's shit not being out there at the minute. Next, we got ta get back in the studio & record some new material.
MM: If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?
Hall & Oates- I Can't Go for That. I've been trying to convince the boys to do it cause I think we could do a banging rock version of it.
MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band
Because you won't be disappointed. Bullets & Blues is loosely a rock opera, so listen start to finish & enjy an album like the old days.
MM: Four words to describe Black Jack Love
Tarantino-esque hoochy desert rock.
Final Words for your fans and our readers
Big love to everyone who buys the music, the merch, & shares/follows us. We love you.
