Emerra Interview 14/07/20
MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences
Hey! It’s Fabian, singer and guitarist in Emerra.
We’re a young band from the western part of Germany doing a mixture of modern, partly djenty metal like Periphery or Northlane and prog rock influences like for example Karnivool or Nothing More.
MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from
Watching the talent of artists like Mateus Asato, Rabea Massaad, Matt Halpern or Snarky Puppy really gets us into the mood to write some music.
MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?
For me personally right now its Pirouette, since that’s the song that started it all.
MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2020
Everything seems to be forbidden in Germany for the rest of the year.
We will need to invest all our time in producing our second EP and releasing it properly.
MM: What can we expect from Emerra live
We try to deliver our music as tight and with as much impact as possible.
For us this also includes playing to a click track and bringing some backing tracks on stage.
We know some people don’t like that kind of approach, but we just love watching bands live and getting blown away by album quality brutality ourselves.
MM: What do you like best and worst abt touring
We are to young for that kind of experiences. We love playing shows overall, I guess the difficult thing is to always live healthy while having a tight schedule. But we hope to be able to do a first tour anytime soon after Covid.
MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies
I think the funniest band I’ve ever seen in interviews is Killswitch Engage. Also Nothing More for me would be a personal favorite, since they blew me away live and I think I could learn so much.
And maybe to round that up we could add Karnivool to that. They are huge heroes of us aswell.
MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why
Like I said earlier, the amount of passion, dedication and energy I witnessed at a small local show here in Germany seeing Nothing More blew my mind.
Fighting for every perfect note and every scream, bringing selfmade scorpion tail themed synthesizers and playing drum solos that could also be seen in the worlds best circus left me speechless.
I told everyone afterwards that I was not worthy of being a musician anymore after seeing the level of these guys. I really needed to grow my ego again, haha.
MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with
Our debut EP „Monochrome“ reached more people after half a year, than any previous band any of us played in ever before. We try to channel this momentum as good as possible, although Covid makes this difficult.
MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time
Fabian: Lost Forever // Lost Together - Architects
Mesmer - Northlane
Max: Sound Awake - Karnivool
IOWA - Slipknot
Stefan: Sound Awake - Karnivool
Audioslave - Audioslave
Timo: Make Yourself - Incubus
Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park
MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?
That must’ve been any kind of music school event when I was 7 years old.
Maybe its better to start that with me being in a whole band, which I really enjoyed - it was more difficult singing for the first time. Playing guitar felt right pretty much from the beginning.
MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.
Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Korn, Metallica, Metallica, Metallica
MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person
Maybe James Hetfield?
Hard to say. My biggest hero growing up was Kirk Hammett. Before that it was Angus Young.
I don’t listen to Metallica anymore, but you can’t deny that they changed the world a lot.
MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?
Trying to come up with new material that we really want to put out there. And not trying to sound like anyone else necessarily. It seems impossible actually, but we just try not to follow any scene hypes or stereotypes to much.
MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?
I’d love to do a Backstreet Boys song. I don’t know if I can get the others to join me doing so though, haha.
MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band
People who enjoy a heavy band that doesn’t shout to much and is a fan of modern, progressive elements should like what we do.
MM: Four words to describe Emerra
