Fake News interview 28/02/23
MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences
We are called Fake News. We are a 5 piece melodic punk rock band from Queensland, Australia. We
draw most of our influences from 90’s punk rock bands like Pennywise, Pulley, Strung Out,
Millencolin, Bad Religion etc.
MM: Where do you draw your inspiration and ideas from
Its pretty much from life experience. The experiences you have, people you encounter, music you
listen to all helps to shape the music we’re making.
MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?
Such a hard question & I hate to have to pick one but I will. Broken Bones. It has such great energy &
people seem to really love this one & its always fun to play.
MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2023
We have a few major support shows lined up. Just did a tour with Everclear. Had Unwritten Law
support booked until the tour got cancelled but that hopefully will reschedule soon. Playing with A
Wilhelm Scream next week. Beyond that we have a few others coming up we are keen on. Also due
for an east coast tour down to Sydney & Melbourne & planning to make that happen this year. We
are ready to hit the festival circuit so hopefully next summer come festival time you will see us on a
few around the place.
MM: What can we expect from Fake News live
Pure energy. Our music is already high energy & we use that to get the crowd into it & it just feeds
from there. We all really enjoy playing live & we just let that shine through. It’s a great formula
which normally results in fun shows. We aim to please the crowds that make the effort to come out
& see us because hey that’s why they are coming to a show in the first place isn’t it.
MM: What do you like best and worst about touring
Fun times on the road with the boys. Normally my ribs & cheeks hurt from laughing & smiling so
much. We really do have a ball together it’s a great bunch of guys & It is a great opportunity for us all
to bond & really solidify our friendships within this band. The hardest part is backing up shows night
after night. You really have to pace yourself & be mindful that you have to play again tomorrow
night so we need to keep ourselves in some kind of reasonable condition to be able to do that. Sadly
it can’t be all party, party, party.
MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies
I’m gonna say PMX because we have worked with Chic before & they seem like they love a good
time on the road too & they’re a good band to boot. A Wilhelm Scream would be another because
those guys are the best band getting around if you ask me. Last but not least I would say Pulley
because I absolutely love those guys & that would be a once in a lifetime opportunity.
MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own)
and why
So many to choose from. So hard to pick just one. I’m going to go with the last Soundwave festival
we had here in 2015. It was a 2 day event with a jam packed line up of great punk & metal bands.
We don’t get festivals like that anymore. I wish we could go back to those days.
MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with Fake News
It would have to be releasing our full length album Everyday Warrior. It is such a great album &
received an amazing response worldwide when we released it & there are people still only
discovering it now. It was our first time doing a full length album & it took so much work to get
everything together & ready for it. When it came out it was a great feeling of satisfaction to see it
out there & people enjoying it. It made it all worthwhile
MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time
I don’t really have favourites that stand out above the rest but seeing as you asked for 2 I’ll give it to
you.
Strung out – Suburban teenage Wasteland Blues
A Wilhelm Scream – Career Suicide
MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have
people watching you?
Barely. That seems like a lifetime ago. Can’t say I can remember what show it was specifically & I’m
sure there weren’t many people there watching but I know I enjoyed it & have every show since
then. Playing live is something I love to do. Even if no one else enjoys it – I Do!
MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.
The same ones I still have up there today! Pennywise, NOFX, Bad Religion, Pulley, Good Riddance,
Pantera, Rancid, Strung out, Propagandhi, Lagwagon
MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other
Person
Elton John
MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?
Writing, recording & releasing new music. That is the key.
MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?
I have always wanted to do a cover of the Gangajang song Sounds Of Then (This Is Australia). Its such
an iconic Australian song & I would love to punk it up a bit.
MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band
Have a listen for yourself & you will know why
MM: Four words to describe (band Name)
Classic melodic punk rock
Final Words for your fans and our readers
Get out there & support local music. Not every band can start out as international superstars &
without a healthy local scene to allow them to grow a lot of great bands will never be heard. Turn
your phone off & go experience live music the way it is intended to be. At the very least look around
to discover new bands & new music that you haven’t heard. Not the same old crap you hear on the
radio every day. Fake News | Facebook
