                                                                                                        Divinex interview 05/06/23

Interviewee: James Millerd of Divinex

MM: Can you tell us about your Band and who your biggest influences are?

Sure! Our band is called Divinex. We’re a progressive instrumental band that focuses on catchy and dynamic guitar playing that seems to appeal to a fairly wide audience. I would have to say the band's biggest influences would include Between the Buried and Me, Protest the Hero, Tesseract, Haken, Monuments, Periphery and other similar acts.

MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from?

Personally, I pull a lot of inspiration from nostalgia. I really enjoy tapping into chord progressions and melodies that remind me of my youth. Anything fun and inviting. A really big part of Divinex is that what we’re doing has to maintain a balance of being fun and enjoyable.

MM: What can we expect from Divinex live

You can expect to always be engaged in what is happening. We work really hard to make sure our performances stand out.

MM: What do you like best and worst about touring?

We’ve never actually gone on an official tour. But we have traveled far for some shows and had a few shows in the same week.. The best part is absolutely getting to experience a new area. I don’t get to travel often so I fully absorb every moment of the ride. The worst part for me would absolutely be sleep.

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than

your own) and why?

My Chemical Romance’s Reunion tour post covid! Absolutely, because they’re my wife and I’s favorite band of all time! I was able to surprise her with tickets and just had the absolute best time making a beautiful memory.

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far

with Divinex?

Definitely how far our music has reached. Being a relatively smaller act and knowing that people all over the world know who we are and listen to us will always just blow my mind!

MM: Which are your Two favorite Albums of all time?

Dang, you can't ask musicians questions like this! Ummmmmmm… Okay, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance and The Young and The Restless by Good Charlotte. I know this seems weird for a Prog Guitarist but I can really credit those two albums with really turbo-driving my path into being a musician.

MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how

it felt to have people watching you?

I can’t really remember the first times I played music in front of people because I’ve been doing that since the 4th grade. But I can remember the first time being a teenager playing the music I wrote for the first time live. I wasn’t really afraid to be up in front of people so much because of backgrounds in band and chorus, but there was a nervousness. It turned into this tremble in my legs it was like they wouldn’t stop shivering and I had to just flex all my leg muscles really hard to make sure I could keep my balance and stand up. I felt so much joy being able to do what I loved and that it was something I made. But no matter what, my legs just don’t ever stop shaking. Even today when I play shows, I’m up there having a blast but my legs are just quivering the whole damn time hahahaha

MM: Growing up, which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall?

I didn’t. I had anime posters, hahaha!

MM - Who do you think influenced the world of

Metal / Rock more than any other person?

Honestly probably Slipknot. They’re huge! Having written songs that are everything from Acoustic Singer/Songwriter to Death Metal, they really are monumental in making Metal something for the mainstream music world.

MM - What's the most important thing to the band

right now?

Getting this new album out! Hands down. “Dreamscapes” comes out on June 16th!

MM: If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and

why?

White Flag by Dido- There’s just something about the chorus that screams double time pop punk cover to me

Fireflies by Owl City – There’s so many melodies in that song that bounce around and are really fun to play on guitar

MM: Four words to describe (band Name)

!Divine Right to Rock!

Final Words for your fans and our readers

Thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart. You will never know exactly how much it means to me that you read this, or that you listen to my music. I freakin’ love you dawg!
