Freedivers interview 10/2/23

MM: Can you tell us about your Band and who is your biggest influences

Freedivers is an alt-rock band based in Barcelona, with huge grunge influences. We
feel inspired by bands like Nirvana, Radiohead, Pearl Jam or Foo Fighters, just to name
some of them.

MM: Where do you draw your inspiration and ideas from

I am quite visual and I always have artistic references, romanticism and baroque,
mythology... I like to reference some of those things in my lyrics. I love English literature as
well!

MM: What would you say is your Band's favorite song ?

We all agree that Roses is really great! It is one of our most energetic songs ever.
We’ve also been loving our latest release, A thousand shadows.

MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2022

We have a scheduled tour in our country and some other few close countries. We are
really looking forward to it. The best is yet to come!

MM: What can we expect from Freedivers live

Well, live is actually the best bit! That’s when the true connection with fans and people
happen. There is certainly going to be big shows and great energy, with lots of different
stagings and a few covers. I really hope you stay tuned and check what we do on our media.

MM: What do you like best and worst about touring

 

 For me it is quite incredible to see all of the support we’ve been having. All of the
people and experiences... That’s obviously the best about touring. There is always space for
true connection and new things every moment. The worst bit about it is, I’d say, that we
sometimes have to go on a rigid schedule in order to be able to reach our goals in terms of
touring and time always works against us. There’s never enough of it!

MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies

 

Well, I think that many friend bands, but Four From Five, The Unique and Boy Dolls could be great.

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own)
and why

I still remember the After Laughter’s tour concert here in Barcelona, by Paramore. I had
been a fan of them for years and to me it was the presence of Williams and the overall
chemistry of the band that was so appealing! I also felt that the crowd was just like a big
family and I’ve always been interested in the collateral effect of music, the sense of unity and
belonging to everyone that listens to it.

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with

 

Really, I think that staying together and with the same enthusiasm as the first day.

MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time

I always struggle to answer these questions because there are so many albums I enjoy
it’s hard to only name two. I love In Utero by Nirvana and the debut album of The Doors... I
also love Patti Smith.

 

MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have
people watching you?

It was an acoustic session and it felt so intimate... I loved it. I still remember the echoes
of my voice reverberating across the room and the people staring. The concert felt magical
when I got to the realization of it.: ‘’Oh, we are finally doing it! People can actually hear what
we’ve been working on for a while at last!’’

MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.

I still do have my bedroom wall all covered up! I have a poster of Eddie Vedder on it. I
also have Kurt Cobain and Kate Bush on my bedroom door, amongst many other things. I
have James Dean and Lady Di on it too, haha.

MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other
person

Mmm I think Nirvana was so heavily influential due to the little time they had to make
the change they managed to create in the history of rock. What’s interesting to us is the
philosophy Nirvana had and the things they valued as a band and musicians. So I’d say Kurt
Cobain represents to me the contracultural figure in the world of music: you don’t really have
to be a pro to express something great in art. Jim Morrison is quite interesting as well
because he mixed poetry and rock, and I do love both of those things.

MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?

Hmm. I guess right now it is quite key to not stop. To keep learning and figuring more
things along the way, and keep up the great work. We do that every time we meet but even
when we are apart we are always working on the big picture of things as individuals: how
can we be and do better, which other ways can we express ourselves in, what are we
feeling... Staying humble is really important too.

MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?

Rafa and I always talk about Pennyroyal Tea. We love that song. I think it has the
perfect vibe and energy, the contrast between softness and roughness, the emotion, the
lyricism.

MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band

I truly believe we have many things to say and to share with this world. We are working
really hard for our own art, and we literally started with no privileges or contacts. For us it is
more mature to say that it’s okay if some people don’t like us. Of course it’s okay. But we
encourage everyone to give us a shot, because our songs are diverse (we have softer and
heavier sounds) and we have a lot of faith in this project.

MM: Four words to describe Freedivers
