Leon Marshall Interview 17/12/20

MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences
I am a solo singer songwriter, my music has a Country-pop kind of feel to it, and I’d say my biggest influences are probably the likes of Elvis, Barenaked Ladies, The Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson…actually this list is bigger, I could go on forever!

MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from
I find a lot of inspiration from the people around me, strangers mostly, whether it be someone stood in front of me in a queue at the shop or just someone walking past me on the street, I often give people back stories and sometimes an idea or a lyric will spark from that.

MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?
At the moment I’d probably say ‘Chainsmoking’ I think that one gets requested most often at gigs anyway!

MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2020
Not an awful lot I’m afraid! I did have a few festivals booked in for summer 2020 but they’ve all postponed for 2021!

MM: What can we expect from (Band Name) live
A bit of joining in and tapping your feet, I’m easy to listen to!

MM: What do you like best and worst abt touring
I get quite a rush from being on the road constantly, I love it, I love being busy…however I do always miss a proper brew!

MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies
The Barenaked Ladies, Jack Johnson, and maybe Flight of the Conchords!

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why
Maybe The Beach Boys Pet Sounds Anniversary tour…it was amazing.

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with
I think just being able to say that this is my job! It’s such a great feeling knowing that I’m doing something I love for a job, and what I always wanted to achieve.

MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time
The first one is always Screamadelica - Primal Scream, there’s a song on that album for every emotion, I used to listen to it a lot when I was in my teens and it brings back a lot of memories, and the second I think would be Gordon – Barenaked Ladies.

MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?
It was at a local folk club, I was about 16, I played one of my songs ‘Don’t Be A Stranger’ (which I then later put on my EP ‘Feel The Rain’) and the whole crowd started singing with me from the second chorus, it got me completely hooked.

MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.
That I can remember, Cypress Hill, Sum 41, Green Day, stuff that doesn’t sound anything like the music I make now!

MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person
I think probably The Rolling Stones.

MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?
I’d say at the moment just being able to get back out there gigging and playing to big crowds again…I can’t wait.

MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?
There’s a few covers that I really enjoy playing, All I Have To Do Is Dream – The Everly Brothers, I Drink – Mary Gauthier, One Week – Barenaked Ladies, and actually I do an acoustic cover of Hits From The Bong – Cypress Hill, that one’s pretty fun to do, so maybe that!

MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band
My music will have you tapping your feet from the start and I write catchy hooks that’ll have you joining in from the second chorus!

MM: Four words to describe Leon Marshall
Memorable, personable, fun, and…err…yeah, Handsome, I’ll stick that one in there, handsome!
