Phear Interview with Patrick Mulock   20/04/20

MM: “The Curse Lives on” has been released recently, how difficult a decision was it to go-ahead with its release with the current COV-19 virus disrupting everything

Ans: Regarding the release of "Curse", There was never any delay due to the covid 19 outbreak. I think a musical distraction from the current state of being is a good thing. Hopefully a lot of new music is released during this crisis.

MM - How does the songwriting process work within the band, is it more a solo or a group effort?

Ans: The song writing process is currently more individual than before, based on the isolation we are now all experiencing. Prior to covid, we (Phear) would get together at least twice a week. However, we are all apart and writing our individual parts from home.

Graham (Guitars) and Bosh (Bass) have both sent me potential songs to write lyrics and melodies to.

MM: Maintaining life is paramount these days, this horrendous Virus is not only taking lifes its wrecking lifes, how much of an effect has it had on your self and the Band as obviously you have had to cancel tours and gigs etc

Ans: This virus has canceled all Phear shows and rehearsals. Other than writing new music, we are not currently doing much as a group. We did manage to release our new video on YouTube, "Narcosynthesis" which is a Nevermore cover. Check it out when your get a chance...... Phear - Narcosynthesis Feat. Jon Howard (Official Music Video)

As far as me personally, Since the outbreak became a pandemic, me and my girlfriend (Teresa) have been making cotton face masks. The demand has been so huge that we have worked everyday for 12 to 16 hours per day, everyday. I'm sooooo tired. Check it out at www.hidesinhand.com

MM: Have you thought about doing webcasts even a whole streaming set of the Album

Ans: As far as doing a webcast....we had one planned for early May. It would have been a private performance for about 150 people and webcast all over the world. Unfortunately, the law in Ontario, Canada is no gatherings of more than 5 people permitted. Even if we didn't allow an audience, we would need more than 5 people to pull a band performance off.

MM: Do you a favourite track on the Album

Ans: My favourite track on "Curse" is "Rime of the Ancient Mariner". I have loved that song since I first heard it in 1984.

My favourite Phear song is "Bloodline"..... When we do that song.....all the lights on stage are red in the beginning... I just looks so awesome!

MM: Who would be your ultimate bands to tour with

Ans: The ultimate bands to tour with would be; Iron Maiden and/or Judas Priest.

MM: When did you first realize you had such a musical talent and do you remember your first-ever performance

Ans: I played drums when I was younger and my first gig, I was 16. I played a high school in Canada. Being the lead vocalist came much later. I can't remember the date but I remember being terrified!! It was in a small local bar in Toronto, Canada.

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why?

Ans: WOW the most memorable concert...that is tough....Not including festivals..... I would have to say that most memorable concert would have to be my first one.

In 1978 or 79, as a young boy, I went to see Rush, Hemispheres tour....... I have been hooked ever since. If you have seen Rush, you don't have to ask why it was the most memorable......lol

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with Phear

Ans: The biggest accomplishment for Phear hasn't happened yet... Getting signed was a pretty cool. Let's answer that question next year.

MM:  Which are your Two favourite  albums of all time and what they have meant to you personally

Ans: Hard to answer as they are changing all the time.

- Iron Maiden "Live after Death" I could not get enough of this band. Bruce was so good live and still is BTW.

- Judas Priest "Screaming for Vengeance" First time seeing Priest was this tour..... Mind Blown!!!

MM: If you could choose one track from “The Curse lives on”  to feature in film or tv series which one would you choose and why.

Ans: Choosing a track for a TV show or movie...... this kind of depends on the show.

A show about Vampires..... Bloodline. A show about a serial killer..... Motive's Unknown

But I would love a Movie or show about exorcism to use Regan's Dream....

MM: Tell us why we should buy “The Curse Lives on”

Ans: Well public, If you like heavy metal and you are looking for something new... I hope you would give us a listen! And, if you like what you hear....pick it up. Music appreciation is subjective. Some people will like it, some people won't.  For those that do, Thank you!

MM: Do you have any Final Words for your fans and our listeners

Ans: To the fans and listeners. Firstly...STAY SAFE!!!! Secondly, I am very humbled that you have chosen to read this article and listen to Phear!
