Random Ties  Interview  19/08/20

MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences

RT:Youssef here everyone, first let me take you back to 2018 which was when I moved to US from Lebanon, I didn’t know anyone or how the music scene was so I started going to open mics with my acoustic guitar & meeting other musicians then one thing lead to another & me the rest of the guys.

Our start defines the type of band we are when I think about it, when we first started in Detroit, we didn’t have a reputation in the music scene & no promoter would return our messages so what I would do is follow all the venues around us on social media & in case a booked band cancelled an appearance last minute & the promoter or venue needed a fill in we’d be ready to hope in our car & be available to play the show.

The sound that changed my life was the 90’s bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters their music shaped who we are as a generation honestly growing up listening to them it was so powerful.

MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from

RT:There is so much going on around us good & bad & what better way to channel that energy & express it via music. The guitar usually comes first then the lyrics flow.

Our new single “Thawra” was inspired by the deadly attach that happened in Lebanon on August 4th that rocked the nation, leaving over 300,000 people displaced & thousands still missing or dead.

This humanitarian crisis really hit me hard, the blast is only second to the Hiroshima bomb, this prompted me to write “Thawra” & work with the uncredible Layal @Ipr1ncess who produced the video with the most authentic shots of what’s going on down there.  We hope this song will shed light & raise awareness of what’s going on in Lebanon.

All proceeds will go towards supporting the Lebanese Red Cross so if you do decide to contribute would be to purchase the single via our Bandcamp page https://randomties.bandcamp.com/track/thawra & you can watch the video on https://youtu.be/fv9cC_iLZk4

MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?

RT:“Week 39” is such a personal song that any parent can relate to

I was terrified. Those last few weeks of anxiety starting from week 39 were more than all the previous 9 months put together.

I wanted this, wanted him to be safe, more than anything else in my life at that time.

And then suddenly he was born & in our arms! https://youtu.be/lk40kyOpIn4

MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2020

RT:We just finished our summer tour playing two shows in Michigan at the Goose Lake Jamboree 50th Anniversary festival.

We plan on getting back to the studio in September & finish recording our second EP “No More” which will probably be released in October.

MM: What can we expect from (Band Name) live

RT:Don’t be surprised if a few fans are up on stage with us doing backup vocals or just dancing, we want to make each show a memorable experience something they can take home with them

MM: What do you like best and worst abt touring

RT:The joy we get playing live & meeting our fans is like no other, at the end of the day our music lives through them so we owe them everything.  The worst would be spending time away from family especially kids, I got a two-year-old at home waiting for me.

MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies

Rolling Stones

Foo Fighters

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why

RT:I am always breathless when I am at a Foo Fighters concert, the energy is out of this world, the band is at the top of their game & Mr. Grohl just gives you everything he’s got even on one leg when he toured a few years ago.

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with Random Ties

RT:I feel we just started to scratch the surface, we accomplished allot in a year, 3 music videos, EP & a single, momentum is on our side little derailed with all that’s going on.

MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time

RT:I will go what came first in my mind Use your Illusion I & II by Guns n Roses & Nevermind by Nirvana

MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?

RT:Must have been back in the late 90’s I remember forgetting some of the lyrics but what made it great the bar war filled with friends so they didn’t seem to notice or care & the venue gave us all the beer we could drink for free which might have contributed to forgetting some lyrics J

MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.

RT:I had a Pearl Jam poster & Beatles growing up

MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person

RT:I would say David Bowie was so diverse & he influenced so many bands with his style & diverse music

MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?

RT:Socially staying healthy & doing our part to keep our communities safe, as artists continue grinding & making music

MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?

RT:We are the champions by Queen, such an iconic song & probably one of the few songs you can play anywhere that will get the crowd out of their seats & take you to a happy place

MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band

RT:We are a high energy, feel good band, our sound is dynamic topped with an honest message and we stay true to our chore grungy sound

MM: Four words to describe Random Ties

RT:United, different, half full, egoless
