                                                                                                                    UTT interview  10/6/20
MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences

UTT:It would be a pleasure. we are Under The Tongue, an independent alternative rock duo based in Berlin. Mark Eden from Melbourne, Australia and Julia Eden from Berlin, Germany. We formed in 2008 and have released to albums ‘Make A Wish’ and ‘Potions’. We’ve finished our third album ‘Art Of Perception” which will be released song by song starting with the first single ‘Waterfall’ on the 5th of June 2020.
We would say the influences are ranging from The Beatles to Ben Harper, Puscifer, Elliot Smith, Audioslave, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Slade, ….and the list could go on.

MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from

UTT:Inspirations come in many shapes and forms on any given day. They can range from a quote in the media to philosophers, movies, dreams ordinary daily living, friends. nature, trave, music, filmsl and anything that  takes our fancy in the moment.

MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?

UTT:In general or from our songs? That is super hard how about our favourite song for today is Killing Strangers my Marilyn Manson.

MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2020

UTT:The plans this year have pretty much been blown out because of COVD-19 so we are rescheduling everything at the moment. In the works is a tour of Europe and Sth America, so we are very excited.

MM: What can we expect from (Band Name) live

UTT:Live you can expect, songs with singalong choruses, big drum grooves, simple guitar lines, some chanting thrown in, harmonies  and a heap of rock songs to get you movie’.

MM: What do you like best and worst about touring

UTT:We would say that trying to eat healthy food, getting enough sleep things not going according to plan and finding a balance would be the worst things. The best are of course playing live and getting great feedback, seeing new places and experiencing new thing and meeting new people.

MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies

UTT:That is a good one, people can be very strange on tour  so that depends on if that are easy to get on with….that would be the number one criteria. If they were easy then…..Audioslave, Reignwolf and Puscifer. I presume you meant the living artists ;)

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why?
Julia: We went to Brussels in 2016 just to see Puscifer live and it was such a great atmosphere at the venue. The sound was fantastic and we knew every song and sang our hearts out. We were just so happy to be there experiencing a band that we respect as musiscians and were at the top of their game.

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with

Musically bringing out 2 awesome albums, which we are very proud of and holding the hard copies n our hands. Also creating our own music videos has been a huge accomplishment and learning new skills to make it all to fruition.

MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time
Mark: Sgt. Peppers by the Beatles and as second there are to many to name…
Julia: A best-of vinyl (AMIGA, GDR version) with Queen songs and self-titled debut album by Audioslave

MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?

Mark: the first time I played live, to be honest, was a mixture of emotions. I couldn’t believe that I was doing what all my heroes had been doing for years, it was daunting. It was a mixture of excitement and fear. Fear of ‘will I fuck it up?’ and excited to be playing in front of people.
Julia: I played piano in a church in front of my entire school and it felt like ‘this is so awesome and is exactly what I wanna do’ and at the same time I wanted to run a million miles away from it all. So half way through I just closed my eyes and was in my own world.

MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.
Mark: I had The Beatles, Kiss, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin,  Skyhooks and whatever was colourful to be honest.
Julia: I had posters and cutouts of magazines of Linkin Park, Cat Stevens, Aaliyah, Audioslave, 2pac, Eminem, Him and Apocalyptica and many more.

MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person
UTT: Good question, we would say Black Sabbath, LedZeppelin, ACDC and Queen.

MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?
UTT:Seeing as our new single ‘Waterfall’ is coming out on the 5th of June, the most important thing for us is finishing the new video and promoting the single and the songs that will follow. Also keeping some sort of life balance/focus with all the craziness that is going on in the world right now.

MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?
UTT:We would cover ‘Show Me How To Live’ by Audioslave, because the groove is absolutely killer and who doesn’t want to scream out like Chris Cornell.

MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band
We would love you to buy and listen to the music to support us as an independent band, so that we can continue to make great quality music, supercool videos and play awesome shows.

MM: Four words to describe Under The Tongue.
Rock, Groove, Melodic, Anthemic

Final Words for your fans and our readers
